How we start
There's no application process, no non-disclosure agreement, no upfront fee. We talk first.
An initial conversation gives us a chance to understand what you're trying to do, the site itself, and whether we're the right people to work with. If it looks promising, we'll arrange a visit to see the building and land. That's usually when we decide together whether to move forward with a formal brief and fees.
We work on houses for clients who plan to live in them for years. We care about getting things right — which means the right amount of time, the right collaborators, and the right approach for each project. We'd rather say no early than disappoint later.
What to tell us
When you get in touch, it helps to mention a few things. None of it needs to be exact — this is an early conversation.
- The site: Where is the building or land? A postcode, or a description of the area, is enough.
- The project type: A new house, an extension, a renovation, or something else?
- What you're after: Roughly what do you want to achieve? More space, better light, a different layout, something else entirely?
- Timeframe and budget: If you have a sense of what you'd like to spend, or when you'd like to start, tell us. If you don't yet, that's fine too.

What happens next
We'll read your enquiry and get back to you to arrange an initial conversation. We usually do this by phone or video call, somewhere quiet where we can talk properly.
If it sounds like a project we can help with, the next step is a visit to the site. We need to see the building, the land, and understand how you live in the space — how light moves through it, where you spend time, what works and what doesn't. That visit is also where we get a better sense of each other, and you can ask us questions about how we work.
From there, if everyone's keen to proceed, we'll discuss a formal brief and agree on fees. No commitment is made until we've both had that chance to talk and explore.
